Pioneer X-SMC4-K Elite AirPlay Music System (Black)
The Elite Music Tap, the latest addition to our family of Airplay-compatible products, was created so that you can enjoy all your music wirelessly in various rooms of your home, regardless if it’s stored on your cell phone, iPod, computer or streamed through music services like Pandora and iheartradio. With Music Tap, one connection now means music in any room of your home. Built-in Wi-Fi gives way to Airplay, Apple’s music streaming technology that works seamlessly with your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch and any computer with iTunes. Set up us a breeze with Airplay. As long as Music Tap and your Apple device or computer are connected to the same network, you’re all set. Simply tap the Airplay icon, choose a song and Music Tap is playing your music wirelessly. And it’s not just the music you own. Music Tap supports Airplay-enabled apps like Pandora and LastFM, letting you enjoy a virtually endless playlist. With multiple Music Tap systems, you can even enjoy music throughout the house. Using iTunes, simply choose the Airplay devices you want to stream music to and download Apple Remote from the app store to use your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad to control it all. Music Tap comes with a host of other networking features, including DLNA 1.5 Certification, meaning that Android phones, Tablets and DLNA-certified hard drives and PCs can sync with Music Tap to wirelessly stream music. vTuner Internet Radio gives you access to more than 16,000 stations from all over the world. In addition to Music Tap’s networking features, you can also enjoy Pioneer's spin on Bluetooth with the free Air Jam app, which lets you connect up to 4 Apple devices via Bluetooth to make a group playlist to play on Music Tap. And because the system is Made for iPod and iPhone certified, you can go the more traditional route with a pop-out dock for music playback and charging.
With so many on offer these days, it is great to have a name you can trust. This item is certainly that and will be a perfect buy. The distributor have added some great touches and this equals great value.

Not ready for prime time
I bought this unit directly from Pioneer mainly for all the features it had crammed into it. iPod/iPhone slide out dock, Bluetooth for using an iPad or iPhone wirelessly, Internet radio, Air Jam, and wired or wireless connectivity for a network DLNA drive to stream gobs of music from your own files. With so many features could something go wrong? Well yes it can. The networking part of this unit is very buggy. It will play music files for a while but then "freeze up" when changing songs in a playlist. There is no telling when this will happen. Maybe the 4th song, maybe the 15th song. When it does this the whole system freezes and must be rebooted from the beginning. Sometimes shut down takes 2 tries and 5 minutes of time. I have tried all sorts of work around scenarios. I checked by network drive, all CAT 5E cables and connections are good. Everything else on my home network works flawlessly.
I have put an email into Pioneer so I will see if they are responsive and...

Great dock and Airplay/Bluetooth speaker
I already have a Samsung DA-E750, and wanted something similar for our summer house, but did not want to spend another $600. When I saw the Pioneer on Amazon at the amazingly low price, I immediately went ahead and ordered it. There were only a couple of reviews on Amazon, and a few other reviews here and there, mostly negative. However for the throw-away price I really did not see any down side, if nothing else I would just use it as an iPod dock.

When the Pioneer unit showed up, the first thing that I was impressed by was the overall sleek look which blended great with the rest of our AV system (including a Pioneer Elite Kuro flatscreen). I had no problem with either hooking it up to the WiFi network or connecting to my iPhone through Bluetooth. I have also had no problems playing music through AirPlay and in fact it has been better than my Samsung with less dropouts. The sound has been perfectly O'K and in keeping with my expectations for a dock (although I agree the...
FAIR at best
I purchased this unit to replace a Panasonic unit that the cd motorized door stopped working on the unit. This one does not have a cd player but I knew this. The Fm reception is fair with the Fm antenna installed. It took a while to get the unit to connect to my wireless network finally I got it to work. The internet radio is good. The sound quality is good. I am disappointed with the USB .I have two flash drives USB , one I downloaded from I tunes on my computer the other one I downloaded from the windows player on my computer Neither one will play on this unit but they both play on the Panasonic and in my vehicle. The bluetooth works but dont get too far away because it cuts out Two rooms away in my small house. I got the air play to work with I tunes but if the USB worked you would not have to keep the computer running for air play. I will keep the unit but I probably should have considered another Panasonic Oh well.
