Solid performer, easy to use, unobtrusive design
This model is for all who are looking for a simple receiver resembling vintage audio equipment while built around modern technology, providing essential functionality with only a few welcome extras. It is not for those who like to play with feature-loaded gadgets offering seemingly infinite range of settings and features. Yamaha R-S300 has been designed to deliver music: set it up and forget about it.

This receiver delivers clean sound, which is not processed or enhanced in any way and may sound a bit empty at first, but don't worry you'll quickly get used to it and learn to appreciate the details and definition. At the same time it also means Yamaha R-S300 is very demanding in terms of input signal quality. Make sure you pair it with other high quality components. The FM radio tuner is sensitive and delivers good sound, although it may be a bit too restrictive, cutting off all radio stations with less then excellent signal strength. Basic Stereo Receiver, Simple Perfection
Just had this piece delivered yesterday. Setup was a breeze. The design is elegant. It has plenty of power. Feels solidly built, to last for years upon years to come. And all those things are well and good, things you expect from a big-name manufacturer like Yamaha, but the real treat in this piece of equipment is the way that it sounds.

Simply put, the sound is sublime. If you like basic tonal sculpting tools like bass, treble and loudness knobs, they're all there, but I, personally, will never use them because the Pure Direct feature is where the R-S300BL REALLY shines! Engaging the Pure Direct button bypasses everything unnecessary to the reproduction of the music (i.e. the bass, treble, loudness, and balance knobs will be disengaged, regardless of their settings, and the display darkens after a few seconds of using any button.).

As long as you have at least decent mid-line speakers and components (read: not necessarily expensive!) this Yamaha R-S300 is sure...
Solid Stereo
I have owned Yamaha receivers going back to 1978 (CR-820). This receiver does justice to the Yamaha name. I love the fact that I can defeat all tone controls. The quality of the mechanicals is superb: Volume and input knobs feel great. The fidelity is pure and crisp. BTW: I bought from OneCall, and they are top notch too. I purchased an open box item, they had ran out, and sent me a new in box at no extra cost.
