Altec Lansing inAir 5000 Wireless AirPlay Speaker MA5000
The Altec Lansing inAir 5000 Wireless AirPlay Speaker is a sleek, attractive wireless speaker built specifically for use with Apple iTunes on iPads, iPhones, iPods, or computers running iTunes 10.2 or later. The inAir 5000 Wireless AirPlay Speaker features a carefully crafted cabinet which features a perpendicular design and rounded edges to eliminate artifacts associated with boxed speaker designs.

Inside the stylish cabinet lies a tri-amplified speaker system rated at 110 watts (peak). A 3" mid-range speaker, 4" subwoofer and 1" tweeter, combined with active digital signal processing (DSP) result in pristine audio fidelity at home or in your office. Its active DSP controls high frequencies and bass response in order to maintain a uniform, tonal quality throughout the entire range.

Setup is straightforward and fast. The inAir 5000 uses Apple AirPlay to access playlists and files on iTunes. Minimal setup is required for your iOS device or computer, and multiple inAir 5000 Wireless AirPlay Speakers may be networked for a full sound experience in large spaces or multiple rooms. Additional features include a USB input for charging and wired playback, 1/8" (3.5mm) mini headphone jack, auxiliary audio input jack and Ethernet network connection.

AirPlay Convenience
Wirelessly stream music over Wi-Fi from any iOS device or computer running iTunes.

Premium Sound
Unique, non-parallel walls deliver clarity and minimal loss through the entire tonal range. Adaptive DSP widens the sound field, tames high frequencies and offers lower bass-response.

Distinct Ease-of-Use
The inAir Guide iOS app walks users through a quick set-up that will have your music playing in minutes.

Elegant Design
The contemporary, minimalist design with premium materials, accents and finish is striking and attractive.
With so many on offer these days, it is great to have a name you can trust. This item is certainly that and will be a perfect buy. The distributor have added some great touches and this equals great value.

Great AirPlay speaker
I was looking for a fairly portable, high quality wireless speaker for my room when I came across this product. I was almost ready to pull the trigger on the Bose SoundLink, which is a bluetooth speaker with excellent sound quality (according to reviews, anyway), but I realized the inAir5000 was the same price (around $300)! AirPlay, in my opinion, is superior to bluetooth for wireless streaming, since there is no signal compression when sound is transferred to the destination device, and honestly, it's also much easier to use. Of course, if you don't own any Apple products, this point is moot. I, though, own a fair number of them, and this looked like the perfect product, especially since most AirPlay speakers are fairly expensive; the Bowers & Wilkins Zeppelin Air, for example, is priced around 600. (By the way, you CAN turn this into a bluetooth speaker by purchasing one of many bluetooth adapters and connecting the adapter to the inAir 5000 via the aux jack.)

So, I...

Very cool, but not quite ready for prime time
Setup was a breeze. No problems there. The unit also sounds very nice. But after playing a few songs I tried to adjust the volume while a song was playing. Doing any adjustment to a playing song with AirPlay causes a lot of UI lag (things happen a while after you ask for them to happen). This is fairly annoying but workable. Unfortunately, adjusting the volume while a song was playing subsequently caused the InAir 5000 to start skipping sections of the song randomly and frequently. The skipping didn't actually stop until I reset the speaker by turning the power off and on. Although I've only seen the problem the one time, it would appear to be a great big bug in their firmware. As a software engineer, I expect a lot more from firmware programmers than this. Firmware for consumer devices needs to be bullet proof, not "kinda working".
Worthy sound system,great bass
I gifted this to my dad for his birthday since he had an iPad. I own the Bose sound dock 10. so I am bent towards portable wireless stuff.

I will compare this to Bose sound dock 10 and also in general

What I liked:
- very clear sound (try stereomood app on AppStore or play store for high fidelity music)
- really good bass I felt even thumpier than the sound dock 10 but Bose has a deeper bass
- looks really nice ..has this nice blue light underneath that's on all the time
- airplay part was pretty simple I dint have the touch the speaker once it was setup with both iPad and my iPhone.
- it's so cheap compared to sound dock 10 for which I paid $600 and this was what just $249
- lighter compared to sound dock 10 (but off course dock 10 is not meant for portability)

What can be better:
- on really high volume my Bose sound dock 10 won't be harsh on ears this one gets slightly treble-y if music quality is low
- just...
